The Nutcracker!

Glasgow Dance Academy is excited to announce that we’ll be partnering with the Russian State Ballet Company to produce a joint ballet production of The Nutcracker for our Christmas show. This is an incredible opportunity for the students, giving them a unique opportunity to dance alongside the professional ballet dancers of such a prestigious company.

The students will attend Masterclasses held by the Artistic Director and Stage Producer – Vitaly Akhundov, who will be managing the full production of The Nutcracker.

The show will be on Saturday 12th November at 7pm, doors open 6:30pm. We ask that you support us and spread the word – we are aiming for a sell out show!

The Russian State Ballet theatre has remained one of the leading Russian ballet companies for the past 20 years. Their repertoire includes masterpieces of the classical repertoire and the best samples of modern choreography. The primary task of the “Russian State Ballet” is to preserve the heritage of the Russian and West-European choreography alongside seeking newer forms of dancing.

The Russian State Ballet are seeking new opportunity by establishing links away from home.  Their goal is to make ballet accessible to all young people by engaging them in projects such as the one Glasgow Dance Academy are to undertake. We are thrilled to be joining the company in this years production of The Nutcracker and cannot wait to get started!

GDA Summer School

What a week!

The GDA summer school was a huge success. The students took part in a range of classes taught by current industry professionals from Hip-Hop and Ballet to Musical Theatre and Jazz. The students threw themselves into every class and ended up with over fifteen numbers to perform at the showcase on Friday afternoon. Friends and family were more than impressed and students were signing up for next year. Check out our social media for all the pictures and videos from the week.

The biggest difference however, was in the students confidence. From the Monday morning to the showcase on the Friday afternoon the students had completely transformed. It is extremely rewarding to see young people grow and build their self-esteem through challenge and participation at GDA. It is at the heart of everything we strive for.

We can not wait to welcome all the new students (and the old) on Saturday 20th August after a long summer break at our new premises – Notre Dame High School. We have some very exciting announcements to make over the coming weeks so stay tuned…

We’re Moving!

Glasgow Dance Academy are going to be moving to a bigger premises when we return in August.

From Saturday 20th August we will be holding class at Notre Damn High School, which is just off Byres Road near Botanic Gardens.

Notre Dame High School
160 Observatory Rd

The timetable will not change, however the change in location will give students much more space, changing rooms and a car park for parents.

The high school is only a 5 minute drive from the church we have been using so I hope the change will not be too disruptive for anyone.

We have lots of exciting things planned for next term and are looking forward to starting work on our Christmas show.

We are so excited about the new venue and look forward to seeing you all there.

Happy New Year!

The Glasgow Dance Academy show was a SELLOUT!  All the students had a blast.  We are so proud of every single student.  For most of the GDA students it was their first time performing in front of a crowd.  Both shows were packed with proud parents, friends and family.  The support was overwhelming and it was the perfect end to a busy term.  Thank you to all our helpers – we could not have done it without you.  Take a look at our pictures below…

We are back to class this Saturday 9th January.  We will be focusing technique, using exam work to train the students with the hope of students sitting ISTD exams in the summer.  We are looking forward to welcoming lots of new faces to the GDA family.

Stay tuned for information on our Summer School 2016.  A week intensive; offering workshops from some of the best teachers and professional dancers in the UK.  Please get in touch if you are interested as places will go fast.

Christmas Show!

Rehearsals for the Glasgow Dance Academy Christmas Show are in full swing.  We have a lot of work to do this term to make sure all the students are ready for their first ever GDA performance.  We hit the ground running on Saturday.  A whirlwind of ticket sales, Christmas show work and welcoming a few new faces just in time for the show work.

We now have two shows due to overwhelming demand for tickets.  Both shows will be Sunday 20th December at the SDTA Dance Studios, 101 Park Road.  We will be performing at 1pm and then again at 2.30pm.  Make sure you get your ticket requests in as we are nearly sold out after only 1 week!

We have a professional costume designer making some very special costumes, which the students are very excited about.  The costumes will make the shows even more exciting and add another level of professionalism that we strive for at GDA.

The show promises to showcase all our hard work and entertaining dances, along with a few Christmas touches.

We can’t wait to show you what we have been working on.

See you on the 20th.

First steps.

Two weeks into term two at Glasgow Dance Academy and we have been welcoming lots of new faces.  Many of which are taking their first steps in class for the first time.  It’s so important to establish sound technique from the very beginning of training.  This video struck a chord, resembling some of our new students trying to ‘find their feet’ and learn the basics of ballet…

New term, New uniforms for GDA

Summer is nearly over and that means its time to get back to Glasgow Dance Academy.  We have lots of exciting things lined up for our second term and are getting ready to welcome all our new students.

For this term we are joining our Tuesday classes to our Saturday venue.  All classes will be the same but everyone will be in one venue like a big happy family.

First of all we have selected our senior uniforms.  The link to all the uniforms is in the ‘frequently ask questions’ section on the website.  Just click ‘What do I wear?’ and the link to all uniform items is displayed.  This is also where you can find the Juniors uniform.  New students are not expected to purchase uniforms immediately, but after your first term we do encourage you to purchase the uniform as it allows students to be put forward for the exams we will be working towards, and is a compulsory element for examinations.  We are sticking with the GDA colours and have selected a red leotard, which is worn for ballet, jazz and tap.  All uniform can be purchased from  This is the best quality attire at the lowest price.

If you are unsure about anything please e-mail or call us to check.  It is important all students have exactly the same uniform so please check colours when ordering.  We have made it easy for you by putting everything you need directly below.  All you have to do it click and order.  All orders can be returned, so there is no need to worry if something doesn’t fit or is the wrong item.

We also have our own Glasgow Dance Academy hoodies and t-shirts available to order now.  Pictures and prices will be added this week, so keep your eyes peeled or ask about them at class.
