Christmas Show!

Rehearsals for the Glasgow Dance Academy Christmas Show are in full swing.  We have a lot of work to do this term to make sure all the students are ready for their first ever GDA performance.  We hit the ground running on Saturday.  A whirlwind of ticket sales, Christmas show work and welcoming a few new faces just in time for the show work.

We now have two shows due to overwhelming demand for tickets.  Both shows will be Sunday 20th December at the SDTA Dance Studios, 101 Park Road.  We will be performing at 1pm and then again at 2.30pm.  Make sure you get your ticket requests in as we are nearly sold out after only 1 week!

We have a professional costume designer making some very special costumes, which the students are very excited about.  The costumes will make the shows even more exciting and add another level of professionalism that we strive for at GDA.

The show promises to showcase all our hard work and entertaining dances, along with a few Christmas touches.

We can’t wait to show you what we have been working on.

See you on the 20th.

First steps.

Two weeks into term two at Glasgow Dance Academy and we have been welcoming lots of new faces.  Many of which are taking their first steps in class for the first time.  It’s so important to establish sound technique from the very beginning of training.  This video struck a chord, resembling some of our new students trying to ‘find their feet’ and learn the basics of ballet…

New term, New uniforms for GDA

Summer is nearly over and that means its time to get back to Glasgow Dance Academy.  We have lots of exciting things lined up for our second term and are getting ready to welcome all our new students.

For this term we are joining our Tuesday classes to our Saturday venue.  All classes will be the same but everyone will be in one venue like a big happy family.

First of all we have selected our senior uniforms.  The link to all the uniforms is in the ‘frequently ask questions’ section on the website.  Just click ‘What do I wear?’ and the link to all uniform items is displayed.  This is also where you can find the Juniors uniform.  New students are not expected to purchase uniforms immediately, but after your first term we do encourage you to purchase the uniform as it allows students to be put forward for the exams we will be working towards, and is a compulsory element for examinations.  We are sticking with the GDA colours and have selected a red leotard, which is worn for ballet, jazz and tap.  All uniform can be purchased from dancedirect.com.  This is the best quality attire at the lowest price.

If you are unsure about anything please e-mail or call us to check.  It is important all students have exactly the same uniform so please check colours when ordering.  We have made it easy for you by putting everything you need directly below.  All you have to do it click and order.  All orders can be returned, so there is no need to worry if something doesn’t fit or is the wrong item.

We also have our own Glasgow Dance Academy hoodies and t-shirts available to order now.  Pictures and prices will be added this week, so keep your eyes peeled or ask about them at class.

Glasgow Dance Academy Open Day!

With only a few weeks left until Glasgow Dance Academy breaks for summer we have been working hard preparing for our open day.  On the last day of kids classes we are inviting parents, friends, Aunties, Uncles, cousins, Grans, pets, ANYONE who wants to come and see the hard work the students have put in this term.  It is so important to us at GDA that the students work is recognised.  We will be showing some of the more technical exercises we practice in Ballet, Jazz and Tap class on a Saturday as well as our free work and dances.  The students are extremely excited about showing all the new steps they have learnt and sharing our work.

There has been a marked improvement, particularly in the 4+ Ballet and Jazz classes, as they show understanding of what is expected from them within their class.  This is a great achievement for dancers as young as four.  The classes not only teach children how to dance but parallel with learning how to follow instruction, develop a good work ethic, social skills, improving confidence, develop cognitive ability and motor skills.  The result of this are evident in the positive atmosphere within the class and the friendships forming as the weeks go by.

This is the kind of ethos Glasgow Dance Academy strives for and we can’t wait to share it with you on Saturday 20th June.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

GDA.

Glasgow Dance Academy Uniforms

Last week Glasgow Dance Academy had the pleasure of working with three beautiful ballet dancers.  Louisa, Charlotte and Imogen modelled (and helped choose) the new Glasgow Dance Academy uniform.  As you can see from the picture below it was a tough decision but we settled on the red.  The red represents GDA best: bold, bright and different.  This will be the uniform for the Saturday classes, for exams and class presentations to friends and family.  The girls did a great job trying on lots of different possibilities and was good practice for showtime, when the girls will have to change costumes quickly.

The girls are enjoying classes in Ballet, Jazz and Tap at Glasgow Dance Academy on Saturday morning‘s in Thornwood.  The students at GDA are becoming good friends and improving every week.  GDA are welcoming new students every week and are excited to introduce students to the wonderful world of dance, encouraging and inspiring students to achieve their goals, keep fit and have fun.  We will need to decide on the uniform for the upper school soon.  Should we all be red or something different?  GDA will be on the lookout for our next set of models from our Tuesday evening classes in the Westend.

We are also excited to announce that our very own Glasgow Dance Academy hoodie will be available soon – a cool grey with a bright red logo.  Look out for Hazel wearing hers at class. If you would like one just ask and we will get it ordered.  Pictures coming soon…

See you at class.
